mad-scientist-okarin:

This guy was bad news. You didn’t even have to be a genius to tell that much. If you weren’t convinced there was a screw or two loose in his head the moment he had opened his mouth, just one glance at the massive wrench would be enough to convince you you shouldn’t get too close to a guy like this. And was that… Dried blood? A shiver went down Rintarou’s spine upon realisation and the beads of sweat were already forcing there way onto the surface of his skin.

Why did he even have to go to America in the first place? It was all because of that damned cat girl. And those stupid security people at the airport who couldn’t recognise his true worth. Thanks to various events, Rintarou was rather grumpy, and stumbling upon an American madman was on the list of things he would rather avoid right now.

What on earth was the guy going on about in the first place? If he absolutely wanted to fly he could just board an air plane. Ah, but that wasn’t really the same as soaring through the sky like a bird yourself was it? Possibly this was what the strange person who resembled a mechanic had meant with his words. Starting a dark chuckle, he responded to the man although he would rather just turn on his heels and get as far away as possible from an obviously dangerous type like that.

“Who knows how long we will have to wait for mankind to freely make their way across the sky?” he said having finished laughing in his darkest voice which he thought was very befitting his image and made him look cool. “No the fact that you have realised the impossibility on your own just means you are like any other rational human being doesn’t it?”

The Japanese man had no way of knowing whether or not this stranger was actually a rational human being, but for now it was better not to upset him. “I, however, don’t care. Heh. This mad scientist, Hououin Kyouma, will be the one to plunge the world and even the sky into chaos. That is the choice of Steins;Gate.”

Graham stopped walking, instead choosing to spin on his heel and face the man below him. He set his wrench down on the edge of the fence and leaned against it like a cane, his expression showing that he was deep in thought.

So this Japanese man called himself a mad scientist. He even considered Graham a sane and rational being. Most of all, he was saying something about plunging the world into chaos. Graham didn’t know what Steins;Gate was, and neither did he particularly care, but all this talk about mad scientists and unhappy skies caught his attention.

“I guess mad scientists don’t really care about a lot of things other than madness and science.” He said unhappily. “And I think that’s really damn rude, but I guess I can’t blame you. All I can say is that you make me very upset. I don’t particularly want a chaotic sky, no no. A chaotic sky would clash with this already chaotic earth, and who knows what’ll come out of that then? If you want the world to end, I suggest you wait. It’ll take a while, or even no time at all, but it will come eventually.”

He shrugged.

“Besides, mankind’s already on its way across the skies. Airplanes exist, don’t they? I think that’s enough. Of course it looks like we can’t fly yet without the help of ten tons of steel, but that’s enough progress. Never been on a plane, but they look wonderful. I’d like to dismantle one someday.”

He squatted on the fence and leaned forward, extending a hand.

“The name’s Graham Specter. It’s nice to meet you. I’ve honestly never met mad scientists before.”

“…”

“Did someone try to play a prank on me? No, ‘try’ would be giving them too much credit. I’m not even sure if there’s anything resembling an attempt here. This has got to be the weirdest and worst joke ever.”

And then he promptly laughs, doubling over and clutching his stomach.

borrower—arrietty:

“We borrow things that you humans don’t need.” she said, nodding, her explanation sounding good to her, maybe it didn’t make much sense to him, and if it didn’t she would just have to explain more now wouldn’t she?

“I’m not a pixie…” Arrietty was a bit confused. What was…a pixie? Were they those ones with the wings?

“Wings? I think so, but I don’t know. I don’t really care. They’ve always sounded too cruel for me. The word pixie gives off a really bad vibe, don’t you think? You borrowers seem more considerate, though. I think I like you already!”

He laughed.

“Are you guys responsible for stuff that go missing? Because, you know, we might look like we don’t need them when we actually do.”

“Oh no! I never believed you were that kind of person, Graham. And thanks a lot for the help. I mean, it really means a lot to me. And if anything ever did happen to you, i can’t really forgive that person. I feel like I have a bit of responsibility in making sure everything is fine with you too.” Jacuzzi gave a bit of a wry smile, recalling the time Graham had left for Chicago during the bombings and kidnappings, and all he was able to do for a long while was be worry and cry about thinking of the possibilities of Graham being dead. Even now the thought almost made him tear up.

It was strange, no doubt, of the way Graham thought and spoke. Or maybe it was just usually poetic in a way. That might be the correct term to use. Jacuzzi enjoy hearing what it is he had to say, even if it was just pure nonsense. Unexplainable.  Though there had been plenty of unexplainable events that Jacuzzi had face before. Perhaps will never get an explanation. Though if it was someone’s personality, that is their own story that they can unfold to others when they wish to. No matter how odd it may seem to others, he knew he wouldn’t have found it so strange at all.

“I would say it’s their lost too. You’re a great guy to have around. A-And you’re a great leader! I mean, those who accept you for who you are should be the only one that counts. And they should be the only ones that matter… though, in a way, everyone does matter in some way…” Jacuzzi stayed quite to think for himself on his last statement. Everyone did matter for someone else. There can’t be anyone in this world that was ignored by any others. There has to be at least one person in the world that did believe someone matter the most to him.

“Heh, no way I would think the world is close to ending if I have you around.” He gave a single nod to his friend, not a single hint of holding himself back was in his tone.

Somehow Graham mentioning something ‘mind-blowing’ made him think of any bombs that could ever go off one day by just a chance in escape or to distract someone for a quick escape. That could get so many attention, not to mention someone could get hurt by the explosives. “H-Hey… I don’t really think we would need to think much about that. I mean the idea is still up for anyone else who comes to think like you and have that same idea. It would just…come back to someone else. So I don’t think we need a funeral for that idea if there is a chance someone else could think of is.” Jacuzzi let a nervous laugh out, lightly shrugging his shoulders in speaking out whatever it was he thought of.

Jacuzzi manage to stand himself upright as Graham finally was able to release him, listening to the other exclaim of how much he would enjoy this. Or so it appears. “W-Well—one guy in my group is the one that kinda told us about them. I never met them in person, so I’ll be there to meet them first hand and kinda discuss about our work.” Jacuzzi stared at Graham for a few seconds at the thought of having a king come by. “I… I don’t think it would ever be a king. I mean, tit sounds almost impossible.” ‘Why would a king want to come here anyways?’ Jacuzzi thought that last part to himself, glancing up curiously in thought before shaking the idea off and pulling down on his shirt to get any wrinkles the blonde had given him.

“Well I just need to take only one box. Since we’re starting out pretty small here, and then eventually I’ll have to have Donny come and take more boxes if this sale turns out great.” Jacuzzi walk deep in the warehouse to get a box of booze, about eight inside. “I think this will be enough for a small amount of pay… Alright. Well, are you ready to go?”

“Oh, I’ve been ready ages ago! In fact the excitement’s already finished brewin’ in my bones, and those take years. Years and years and years of preparation, haha!” He exclaimed, throwing his hands up into the air. Graham did a little jog as he approached Jacuzzi, walking with him.

“Obviously you’d think I was your responsibility, but it’s actually the other way round! Pretty nifty, right? I declare you my responsibility, so I really hope that you won’t argue. Might end up in a terrible place, and without the money too. Not that money is the key to everything, of course, it’s just a really nice way to pass the time. And to keep a nice place over your head and to not die of starvation. Yep, yep, just what we need.”

He placed his arms behind his back.

Now Jacuzzi always had this air of being his own responsibility to Graham. Or rather, he only realized it now. When they had first met he was nothing more than redemption and a brave soul, but right now he was that same brave soul. He just probably needed a little boost. And that boost was going to be of Graham’s doing, of course. While he didn’t question the kid’s ability to stay alive in a knife fight (though that didn’t necessarily mean testing it on him right here and then), he did kind of question his ability to stay calm under threat. Which, actually, Graham wasn’t that good at either. He just got another kind of excitement.

“So when people like us get readier than ready, they should start finding a place to blow a fuse, or else the whole bomb’ll explode. Okay, okay, I think I’m being cruel with the really bad bomb jokes.”

Of course they weren’t even jokes at all…

“But if your little business does a little better than you expected, or hell, much better than you expected, then feel free to ask for my services. Need any help right now?

And with that he bent down with a questioning expression, ready to catch the box just in case it fell. Or if he made it fall, of  course.

Mechanic? Who’d even let this guy near people? But Felicity just nodded and smiled like she hadn’t noticed his insanity. “I know what you mean. I just can’t get behind any work that doesn’t involve computers. It’s just too boring. But do you have to lug that everywhere?” She also wanted to ask if he had to wear that uniform too, but she digressed before she offended him.

“Computers! Oh, that was unexpected. Maybe I should stop relying on first impressions, huh?” He thought of her as some kind of banker or accountant. What else needed ‘computers’ on what seemed like such a large scale?

“Would needing be akin to wanting, given particular circumstances, I do wonder. And would needing and wanting be similar to simply breathing? Because half of the time I don’t even think about it. I just do. Hope you don’t mind.”

Waiting to hear of the other’s generalization of his current problems, all Kusanagi got from the younger man was a chain of ramblings. He simply stayed silent on his part, wiping off a few spots here and there on the already-well polished counter. As upset as the man was, Kusanagi was doing his best not to show his amusement …though, allowing a little smile to creep along his features.

“You’d do well on improv.” He commented, in hopes of lighting up the mood if the others suspected he was laughing at him (mind you, he wasn’t). “Having trouble facing the reality of physics are you?” Not at all did he mind the guy’s seemingly off-topicness. Maybe this conversation could steer off in a different path, hopefully lightening up the male’s mood.

Unless whatever was bothering him was no joking manner, then Izumo had enough consideration not to push him anywhere he wasn’t up for.

“I don’t have a problem with facing the reality of physics.” He replied, almost assertively. “I simply have a problem with those that disregard the consequences of their actions. I mean, I’m a reckless guy, but I’m not that heartless. It’s the thought that counts, they all say. When you erase the thought, what’s left then?”

He leaned back with a huff.

“But I suppose we’ve all got our talents, right? Okay, since you’ve decided to show me some consideration, I’m not gonna waste any more time insulting dead physicists.” A pause. “Well, you’ve certainly got a talent for swaying my opinions!”

Graham sounded honestly impressed. Of course, it wasn’t as if it took a lot to change his opinion, anyway.

As of now he’d even forgotten all about his drink.

“G-graham Specter. It’s a nice name,” she said, retracting her hand as soon as he was done shaking the life out of it. This guy was strong, almost superhuman. “Uh, thank you. Spy novels are exciting, yes. Um, if you don’t mind my asking, what’s with the huge wrench?”

“Ah, I’m a mechanic!” He swung the aforementioned wrench over his shoulder proudly. “You’re probably thinking that it’s too modest a profession, but I’m good at it enough to be happy. Killing yourself over something that you don’t even enjoy is too masochistic for me. Too trivial too, and boredom’s a really sloppy murderer.”

If Felicity felt anything negative towards Graham, he hadn’t noticed.

Felicity nodded. “I’m Felicity Smoak,” she said. She wished she could’ve lied, but it probably wasn’t going to go over well if she couldn’t do it convincingly enough. “And you are?” she asked, warily extending a hand.

“Graham Specter. Nice to meet you!” He shook her hand ecstatically, beaming all the while. “I really like your last name. Reminds me of hard-boiled detectives and spy novels! How exciting is that?”
